Justice Clark Removed from Atovian Supreme Court

Following the publication of RE-019, the House of Commons met for a brief session called by Speaker of the House Thomas von Bainbridge. The sole point on the agenda was the removal of Supreme Court Justice Anthony Clark.

Clark, who was approved by the third parliament on 7 June 2020, had not yet completed one third of the length of his three-year term as a Justice. Speaker Bainbridge cited the Justice’s inactivity in his statements to the House, saying:

I wish to call for the removal of Mr Anthony Clark as a judge of the Supreme Court for failure to execute his duties, and subsequently holding up legislation.

Correction, Holding up the legislative process.

Speaker Thomas von Bainbridge in his statements to the House, 7 March 2021

Prior to Sunday’s royal edict, there was no procedure for removing a Supreme Court Justice, and it is also the first instance of a federal judge being removed in the nation.

During the session, Chancellor Nicholas Kaos, himself a member of parliament, had this to say about the proceedings:

My only comment is my support of this motion, I believe that the removal of the Justice will allow for a greater move forward in the legislative process, and allow for the Kingdom to begin amending our current inactivity

Nicholas von Kaos, MdP in the House of Commons, 7 March 2021

The full ramifications of RE-019 are yet to be seen, but the government believes that it will benefit the nation in the long term.
